Thank you, Dr. Brown, for the excellent review. Gorgeous pen, indeed. I have resisted matching inks with pens telling myself that it’s all just writing. But recently I find myself matching them almost as if being attracted by a magnet. Go figure. I want to thank you for your review some time ago of the Jinhao 9019 that didn’t write. It seems your chastisement caused them to start some quality control. Saw another, more recent review of their “Heartbeat” nib wherein the reviewer had drawn some water into it and found the water slightly blue. Seems someone had actually tested it. Bought one (M) to have another larger diameter pen that I could take out of the house with no worries. Mine also showed some blue. It writes very well! I wrote several pages alternating between it and my Pelikan M 800 (B) with identical ink in each. Now, it is NOT the Pelikan, but was pleasant to use and put down ink well and kept doing it. On behalf of the pen community (and probably also for Jinhao), thank you. You always make this community better, and I’m saying this is a measureable iimprovement. Strong work!

Yes, well done on the ink match,my fav red ink. Ha,ha, I am not doing as well matching ink to my Leonardo SuperNova 2023, J.Brookes “Bohemian Twilight” EF. I'm a bit over the colours and artistic design variations, it's just another pen in a colourful body. I'm not discounting the effort that goes into making these works of art, but it seems the industry has lost it's innovation on the actual technical function of a pen which is writing. I want better performing nibs, feeds, ink reservoirs, etc., etc. otherwise they all look the same to me and I can't get excited. Sorry for the negativity.

It was your videos I relied upon when choosing my first fountain pen and still do rely upon often. Though these days I often just watch for fun!

I've been a big fan of your videos ever since I started getting obsessed with fountain pens again several years ago, and I love the fact that they're in your particular style and format. I'd be terrible at making this sort of video... I'm terrible at talking, and if I had to make a video in a single take, it would be such a mess that nobody would be able to tolerate it. It's wonderful that we can all create videos that fit our different strengths and add to the community in our own ways. I love how thoughtful your videos are... they're a very nice break from the more common "look at this shiny object" videos (which I also enjoy). Hope you keep making these videos for another dozen years.

In response to your statement that fountain pens are basically of no importance in the grand scheme, well i disagree, they have added to my life, this interest has helped give me something positive to focus on, I suffer on and off with depression, its helped my mental health. I think it has helped others in this regard, i live alone and you guys on UA-cam are company'. Might sound pathetic but thats the way it is. On another level its supporting industry, many people's livelihoods are dependent.. not only on fountain pen sales but all the ink, paper, journals and ohher related paraphernalia thats jobs supporting people. Even the certain german high end models. Something of antiquity has had new life injected into it from the humble quill. With digital overtaking and overwhelming life, this is so refreshing. It's art, its expression. We can forget about politics and wars... which we cant change anyway.. Excuse my poxy contribution, can barely see what im writing on my wee phone.. I dont normally comment for this reason..

Dr. Brown - I don't think I've ever commented on one of your videos before in nearly 10 years of viewership. I was not exposed to fountain pens when I was younger, but was drawn to the mechanical device and its elegance. Yours was one of the first channels I found that could provide the information that I sought; informational videos on pens and your opinions, biases, and stories. You have informed some of my purchases and definitely some of my opinions - though over the course of time I've found I value different things in a pen than you. I still enjoy your videos and commentary on life. Thank you for making your videos, historically and for continuing in 2024. They have been at times a refuge.

Hi Stephen, first of all thank you for doing this video and giving your feedback on your experience for the past 14 years, you can only judge by views and comments, however the viewer gets to know you.. or what you present..and You present as authentic, very intelligent, humorous and very likable .. i am not trying to flatter as i am too sincere for that.. but you are a LEGEND in this community. A founding father.. along with Brian Goulet. You dont need the fanciest production equipment.. you have brought so much.. their wouldn't be this growing and vibrant contribution without you. I started watching in 2014, fountain pens, writing, ink, calligraphy, art, himour are some of my interests. You jave enhanced my life and i am one of the anonymous pen fanatics out there. Is it refillable?

Your videos helped me in my early days of getting into fountain pens back in 2012. I eventually created a blog that had some moderate success back in the day (Inklode). I've been out of the game for a while now, but I still watch the occasional video. Times sure have changed since those days, and the community feels more active than ever, but I agree that it's a good thing. As you say, it's not about the "likes" or views but about the passion, and I'm glad that you still have that. It might sound silly, but I understand how difficult it can be to maintain the motivation to keep something like this going.

I enjoyed this presentation for the same reason that I have found interesting the episodes, some from many years ago, in which you inject information about your other experiences. I'm thinking here especially of brief explanations of your professional studies and life. Those tidbits gave me information about the person doing these reviews and helped me put a more accurate value on what you have had to say about pens and their use. After viewing this one, I'm wondering how the thoughts you expressed may affect your reviewing process and presentation in the future and will stay tuned in to learn more. Thank you for sticking with it.

You bring up an important point as a pen reviewer. You are reviewing ONE pen that could be from a production run of indeterminate size. Extrapolating your comments, good or bad, to that entire production run is extremely problematic. But, if other reviewers review that pen with the same results. Then you have something. So, there is a place and function for other pen reviewers. What the group says adds credibility to each reviewers comments. P.S. I am really glad that you got a better microphone! Regards. KC.

Thank you for sharing your thoughts in such an honest and perhaps even vulnerable manner. As I'm not producing any video content I'm largely unaware of the hardship it brings. One would expect this community to be kind as a given, but then, people get mean in written very easily. Your style may not be fancy with glitters but it is actually to the point, it does have a very specific charm to it, and, in my eyes, in the end I get more useful information plus real expertise. If you continue reviewing, or, in fact, producing any videos on basically any subject, I will be one of those appreciative of your contribution to this strange world of false mirrors.
